Pic related was an additional comment made by Cover's HoloEN twitter when the first audition for Holo EN rolled out in early 2020. It clearly states interest for English speaking Holostars candidates next to the Hololive ones. But as we all know nothing ever came out of it. And even Nijisanji who is known for their mixed gens, where males even became a steady pillar for the company, has rolled out applications for male EN vtuber fairy only very recently with a potential debut to be expected late 2021 at the earliest, more likely early 2022. And outside of this, it becomes really bleak. None of the known EN start-ups seem to have male vtubers, some of them clearly stating they also don't have an interest to do so.

While it's quite certain that female characters are more popular due to a mainly male target audience and therefore generally much easier to market, what does the other side look like? Is the pool of potential male candidates with sufficient entertainment value who could decently pull of a male character of whatever type while also retaining a decent attitude (not too menhera or prone to yabs) really that small? Not even looking at male EN indies only, but literally any scene or hobby that could be tangentially related or of interest. Is a lack thereof the reason why pic related never happened?
