You wanna know what's an interesting fucking historical event? Let me fucking tell you about interesting: The fucking Revolutions of 1848.
That shit wasn't confined to a ho-dunk island on the coast of the world, it was a multi-national FUCKFEST that fucking obliterated half the world in a massive explosion of the peoples; only to see it all implode in on itself in the most exuberantly interesting ways across Europe.
The fucking French threw out their halfway-king, Louis Phillippe, and replaced him with the legendary Second Republic. That shit hit the world like a thundercrack, and thunder echoed back as at the same time, as the Austrians were hit with a similar revolution, ending the era of von Metternich. And once that happened, it was like the lightning that had been chained up across the Continent was let loose, and a storm rampaged across it all; Italy went up in flames as a secret society, the "Carbonari," started the first war to unify Italy under a single crown, the Hungarians asserted their own independent power from Austria and went on to catalyze the Dual Monarchy, Prussia went up in smoke as all of Germany demanded UNITY; everything was chaos!
But at the end, it was extremely unique, because the winners weren't the revolutionaries, nor were they the monarchies of old; a new world was shaped by it's ability to subvert, control, reroute revolution itself, they CHANNELED THE LIGHTNING and made it their own thrall across Europe! The Austrians removed their feeble King Ferdinad, and elevated Franz Joseph I, who managed to regain control from the revolutionaries while stealing their best ideas and taming the Hungarians with Dual Monarchy. The Prussians were supercharged from provincial military heads to the masters of Realpolitik as the legendary Otto von Bismark was elevated, and he took the calls for UNITY from the revolution and invented a new UNITY, forged by blood and steel over constitutions. Italy beat itself into a bloody standstill, and the secret societies went back into hiding, and France, the catalyst for all of this, brought about it's own demise by electing Napoleon III, a politician who only succeeded because he was NOT THERE while every other candidate destroyed each other, setting the stage for the Second Republic to become the Second Empire.
It's fascinating, extremely so, and it's effects echoed out into every single thing that happened for the next 150 years!
