While I'llagree that it has become overused, the thing with elf hate is that for the most part their most common depictions find their roots on the idealized Tolkien elf, which is wanked so hard in its superiority and perfection that make people recoil.

Dwarves in different settings at least benefit from being universally depicted as more flawed than that. They'll usually be among the best craftsmen and on a good day they'll be big in honor and brotherhood, but just as often they'll be petty stubborn judgemental assholes and people can enjoy playing with the mix of good and bad. Also their stunted dirty looks make it feel less like authors are jerking off to the race.

You can get fun from both dwarf love and dwarf hate, but unironic elf love is the dullest shit outside of Tolkien himself.
