Before my grandfather died he was cartoonishly obsessed with killing the rats that lived in his attic. But he didn't want to do it the normal way - he would build elaborate and deranged saw traps for them and then get angry when they didn't work. The only one I distinctly remember was his plan to balance a large pole over the top of an enormous vat of water, balance cheese on the top of the pole, and coat the pole with grease so mice would jump on top of it, lose their balance, and drown. Just endless bonkers Rube Goldberg machines just like this. In hindsight this should've been evidence that he was developing frontotemporal dementia. But he was also just sort of a weird guy in general who quit his 6 figure banking job to become a beekeeper with 0 previous experience and a bee allergy, so I sort of just thought that was another weird thing he was doing.

Anyways, it never worked, so probably you shouldn't try that.
