Can't resist not weighing in with my DB autism. You get to see Goku work for every little bit he has, which enforces what you're saying. Goku also uses a fair amount of martial finesse and observation to beat his opponents, which is why he sometimes just decides to leave them in a puddle of embarrassment, and piss, because he sees that they literally can't outmatch him, and he won't grow from the fight.
"Rubber nen" I'm still not sure how I feel about it as a story element and how it's presented. On the one side, the theme of freedom is ever present in the story, even from the early stages. On the other, I'm not sure how much I buy into the writer planning that shit from day 1. The fruit itself was meant to just be silly and used by a silly guy to just force his way through opponents, but the surrounding lore he gave it over a decade later is kinda suspect.
