Musk wanted to get brownie points with Republicans, so he put up $44 billion to stage a hostile take over of Twitter and the company was originally prepared to fight him. However, the $44 billion was a lot more than the company was worth and after people figured it out, the stock tanked, so the company was going to let Musk's hostile take over happen. Musk then realized he was being retarded, again, and tried to renege on the deal. So Twitter took him to court and he was forced to pay up.

Either way, Musk is a retard who can only steal credit from the work of others, so his management has been a total disaster, but Twitter is too big to fail, so it still hasn't collapsed yet.
And while companies like Hololive want to set up their own social media system, they're still stuck with Twitter because they'd just create their own little bubble with no reach, even if Twitter is nothing but bots and paid shills now.
