Follow up, if you really get into it after some time but don't want to spend money, look into xmage. It's an open source engine and they're always trying to update it... It has a ton of formats, the it's not the biggest playerbase.

Part of the problem with MTG physical is the constant need to buy new decks/cards if you want to get into it seriously. I dropped off around Eldrazi because of the power creep. I came back for a bit for Return to Ravnica and Innistrad and left again when WoTC started getting less creative or exciting with the new Blocks. It's fun to play for real but it's not worth the spend to keep up to relevancy, relegating your old cards to limited formats and with Wizard constantly going greed mode with new releases or rereleases that are format acceptable. It's honestly the best with friends who play casually and don't care about format rules, but that makes it so the most spendy/creative player usually wins so you might have to nerf your own decks or play suboptimally to play against your friends.

I was talking with Myanon on discord about the problems with zomboid. It’s a fun game but it lacks a direction so when you finally become safe it tends to die out in terms of interest. What you need to do to make it interesting is set things up to make the scenario itself encourage players to be a more interesting problem than the zombies, my idea that won’t work for EN but could as a participating members server kind of thing is a faction war thing similar to Lords Mobile competition:

So the idea is you have to faction up to control the gas stations. The server would eventually reset, like a seasonal thing. Smaller groups can hold up in different places and wait for the big factions to fight in order raid their fortresses. They can set up alliances between the different livers as faction leaders of their member groups.

Zomboid is the create your own fun kind of simulation game and kinda weak without mods but using the settings you could make things fun still

Thank you! T-That actually makes a lot of sense thinking about it in retrospect. Even if he was drunk I really appreciated his heartfelt talk in the 20 or so last minutes of the second stream on his birthday. He has a kind soul, on top of being very entertaining. I will never support his love for TLJ though.
