It's really not that different in the west. The same IP protection laws that protect the music industry and the film industry protect the gaming industry.
It is just that culturally it is accepted that gaming companies would allow people to stream their games. If there's a cultural shift or something happens you can see the same algorithms that copyright strike people for detecting a song or a movie be utilized by Youtube and Twitch to strike gaming streams. I was a bit spooked when that guy decided it's funny to deny perms to Nijisanji for that one game (because he legally can), because if indies decided to bug Youtube and Twitch enough for it, they could decide to just fuck over everyone and release the algorithms.
