okay /btg/, but WHY did the Ares Convention spur on mech development? So okay, Inner Sphere powers couldn't use nukes or chemical weapons on a large scale anymore, but they still kept doing it when no one was looking. And just because nukes aren't an option, it does nothing to curb areospace fighter assets, which will inevitably dominate any conflict.
Fighters are way cheaper than a 6 million c-bill mech, and you can just throw them at the slower moving target that IS a battlemech.
