If you mean in terms of eroge being bad on its own, the prose is often pretty terrible, even in the original Japanese. Let's face it, we're jerking off to the male-equivalent of Harlequin novels. Not that there's anything wrong with that in and of itself, the typical bishoujo game I can excuse because, you know, sex is part of the romantic experience. The thing that bothers me is its defenders, especially as it bleeds over into visual novels at large. VN readers so often just refuse to acknowledge that they're reading porn and heaven help me some of them try to defend their """literary merit""". Visual novels have a ton of potential as a medium but they are perpetually hampered by this horny fanbase who, on the one hand, say "hey this has merit as an artform and deserves greater exposure/sales/whatever" and then on the other hand "hurr durr the fact that these characters need to suck semen from the MC for 30 minutes for every 2 hours of play is essential to the plot dude trust me" because they are incapable of understanding where sex can be used as a valid storytelling technique and when its just there for you to masturbate. So now the only thing we have to occupy the space of "acceptable" visual novels is fucking DDLC which is the most average garbage imaginable. Visual novels will never go anywhere because of the fans. I hate them. Pomu please come homu.
