Like Naruto is a very good example of that process. Hand Seals are based on an untamed mess of like a hundred Yoga positions & signs that the Japanese ultra-refined to twenty and Naruto cut down to twelve hyper-distinct ones.
It's the cultural equivalent of the New York slice. Nor authentic to the original, but so refined it becomes authentic /to itself/.
