Half JP living here since high school and I was quite surprised to find this the case too. A lot of female friends like idols and female vtubers. But when I tell my male friends I like VTubers, they get excited and start talking about Kuzuha. It's always the case, I keep asking people who's their oshi and they say some male like kuzu, and then I get embarrassed saying some shit like Marine so I go to a safe option like Pekora instead lol. Of course many also watch females and vice versa, but generally my male friends are more interested in Uma Musume and genshin than actual female vtubers.

This is a message from my line group, with this girl introducing herself as a Rushia fan. I was approached by a her and a bunch of other girls because none of the boys cared about this hobby and I am the only one who's into Holo girls and idols. They are much less "sex" and more "cute" appeal though. I know for sure some of my classmates do tiktok dances to popular Hololive songs.
