I don't think they particularly close, but they have known of each other for quite a long time.
I'm not sad about Mel at all either if I'm being perfectly honest, but it's upsetting that people post lots of IRyS stuff again claiming it was Mel who is responsible for it cause that's the only leaky doxxy thing that really happened recently. Obviously that's the biggest bullshit imaginable but people will be people.

Flare is easily one of the "safest" Holos in the company. Almost half a decade in the business and she hasn't had even a single real controversy.
No slip ups, no issues with anyone, no nothing.
Has a VERY dedicated community too, despite her lower subcount she's consistently part of the upper echelon when it comes to stuff like CCV and supacha numbers.
Probably has the tightest opsec out of any Holo too.
