How did Monkey become Grug? That is the question. I think a lot can be said about the Acheulean Hand Axe industry being a major turning point in the cognitive development of man. Sure there's the obvious sophistication of the tools, but there's also the less obvious cultural aspect. Unlike the Oldowan industry, Acheulean tools were crafted with a higher standard of precision. Thus indicating that the process was passed down between individuals, and that humans could envision an abstract endpoint and then actuate that vision. Furthermore because the production of these tools was treated with such delicacy, I would consider toolmaking to be the first artform. Precision and mastery was important to the toolmakers, something which goes beyond mere necessity.
