no one wants to build affordable living.
unless the government subsidizes costs or incentivizes it, or an extremely wealthy person eager to reform their image as they get into old age starts doing it, it will not happen.
also, america has lots of space but it's just that, space with a lot of space around it. maybe euros dont get it but there is honest to god wilderness in america to this day.
you cant just build some houses, they have to be within reasonable distance to actual society and services like doctors and banks and places to work and eat and do business.
there's no incentive nor the financial means for the average person to go out and pretend like its the wild west and there's acres of free land and a burgeoning society that is going to pop up around you if you go and live out there.
also you have to consider that a lot of homeless are not simply homeless because theres nowhere cheap to live, a lot of homeless people have untreated mental illness and simply cannot hold a job or take care of themselves
