The iron planet (which is apparently also a company that sells heavy equipment?) idea has always interested me ever since I first heard of it so I try to put it in my sci-fi setting whenever possible! The fact that it would be helpful for heavy industries is a nice surprise too. Since I don’t think red dwarf systems usually have a lot of iron in the protoplanetary disc I imagine it forming in a way similar to how Mercury might’ve formed, hence the vulcanoid asteroids might’ve been remnants of the collisions that didn’t get thrown out of the system or into the star that or space /vnug/ is not the first technological civilization to live in this system and they were working on a Dyson swarm or something similar
I don’t think I see many art for terrestrial iron planets. Most relevant art seems to be for hot gas giants like WASP-67b (which rains molten iron instead and has a bit too much air to my liking) or some generic lava planets. I think my iron planet might remain geologically active though since it helps stabilize the environment and produce a constant supply of CO. Maybe it’s caused by tidal heating from other planets?
I think gas giants are probably a constant for most solar systems unless it got ejected by passer-by stars although I feel the idea of them helping habitability is a bit questionable since chances are they can also throw asteroids into the inner system. I think at least one planets in Sestag system will be gassy but I haven’t decided if I want another one bigger and further away. It would be easier to mine the gas from bigger and colder ones and I imagine having two gas giants would help stop them from migrating too close to the star
Also I did some brief reps for infrared vision! It seems RL animals with IR vision relies on something called pit organs to help them sense infrared but I can’t find a lot of information on actual photoreceptors for IR vision. I guess if I go with the pit organ idea then space palkyries would have something that looks like freckles that allow them to “see” infrared in some way. I also did some reading on UV detection but I don’t know if actual vision’s required given its limited use. Maybe some non-visual sensing would be useful?
