The higher the p/e ratio, the higher expectations people have of a company's growth. 40 p/e is very high, and the company would need ENOURMOUS profits to meet hose expectations. Is it impossible? No. Is it unlikely for the company to meet those expectations, especially on the long term? Yes. Sooner or later they won't be able to meet them, and the price will tank. Basically, the higher the p/e ratio, the more investors will NEVER be satisfied with positive financial reports, because they want even better ones. It also tells you that the current price is overpriced.
