Thanks! I was trying my best to find different fungi I could possible combine into a singular organism that can achieve your description. The base for it would be Stereum Sp. Ostrea which is a tree pathogen and exists only on tree trunks and not the grounds circumventing the first proposed question. Combining this with fungi that can alter the chemicals in the brain do induce pain, euphoria or influence behaviour through the CNS, similar to the zombie fungus.

Corn smut is interesting because it is present in Southern African food as well, just not considered a delicacy. I need to do a lot more reading on the Ustilago maydis that causes it but I will be sure to include it in the report.

I will be adding to the report over time, about half the time is spent researching and hand waving to get these fungi to make sense. At the end of the day I can just make a 5-way crossbreed super-fungi that achieves whatever form you want it to take. Creativity trumps science.
