Because it's successful. Why does anyone join any company for anything instead of just doing it themselves? Because a company pools resources and allocates those resources to it's workers.
Hololive is the gold standard. Instant success, fame, recognition and financial success most people cannot even dream of.
Say what you will about Nijisanji, but there is a reason the majority of hires are sticking with the company which is the money must be good. Even if the work environment on the EN side sucks, it's worth the trouble if you're paid well.
Smaller corps are trying to replicate these two companies. Phase is doing somewhat well, so is Idol. But remember even Hololive had teething issues when it was growing. It's expected smaller corpos will too.
As a talent that wants to join, is in a smallish corporation you must remember to PROTECT YOURSELF. Be smart. Do what is required of you. If something seems fishy, get a second opinion from someone who is not into Vtubing. If the company does something to you that you think is legally wrong then speak to a lawyer. Do not give any more information to your corporation as is required. Your corporation is not your friend. Your manager no matter who nice isn't your friend. Your boss isn't your friend. That doesn't mean you can't be friendly, but remember the boundaries. LOG EVERYTHING. Keep seperate work and personal accounts.
If you keep that in mind then you won't be fucked by a corpo and if they do fuck you you'll be in the best position to legally defend yourself.
Even if things don't work out with a small corporation, remember this is all experience to go on your CV for bigger and better corpos. When that next company is hiring you will have more experience than most other people applying just by being part of a vtubing corporation no matter how small or ramshackle it is.
That's it. It's that simple. Joining a small corpo is beneficial for small vtubers. You have to start small to work your way up. This is about climbing to that golden ticket and you may have to step in some shit to get there.
