Could be fun! The 2 million years old mecha is a trope for a reason.
True, properly looking up the topic, it seems the "Jupiter the Protector" thing might have been more a Pop Sci thing than a rigorous fact. Though yet other sources say redirecting objects towards the inner solar system could be beneficial by bringing sources of water like comets to the planets. I guess this is still a debated subject.
Yeah, pit organs, snakes got those! They would make sense for a people that lives in eternal twilight. As for UV, maybe the skin could be able to detect it? Like feeling light with your sense of touch, or a unique kind of tingling. If UV emissions start climbing before a flare, that could be a nice way to sense one is coming. Proper UV vision might be more useful in a world orbiting a blue star, where a large portion of the light is UV. Maybe you could have an atmosphere that blocks a lot of the visible spectrum, but lets more UV through? Relative to Earth's atmosphere, at least.
