At that point they should've just made a generic corpo-style email like "Thanks for participating in our contest! Unfortunately, your submission was not what we were looking for, but regardless, we want you to improve and participate in future contests, as we appreciate your art and our community."
Then credit everyone who was outright rejected in a separate announcement, a google doc or whatever with proper credits so they can get the exposition they yearn for, and thank literally EEEEEEVERYONE. Just some minutes of reading names will gain you mad PR and you'll be treated like a saint who loves her public oh-so-much.
So fucking easy, yet they went the extra mile to be retarded cunts and get on the bad side of a community that whiteknights anything with ovaries.
