Correct, and I blame the lack of character roleplay and lack of creativity using their lore and I'm 100% serious. The internet being dominated by irony and "ironic humor" basically means no one in the west (and probably JP too) can get away with doing something like that long term in any meaningful or genuine way, the masses treat vtubers like normal streamers with an avatar gimmick, so that's how the vtubers behave. In the west, vtubing is dominated by react content and other such lazy things. On the JP side it's all about drama and company wars and just generally a corporate hell. Indies are stuck in the middle but most of the ones that "make it" are also just the same as e-celebs or normal streamers and content creators, nothing sets them apart aside from using a model and being randomly blessed by an algorithm. No one uses their actual character because everyone will immediately go "UHHHH CRINGE, FUCKING CRINGE JUST PLAY MINECRAFT YOU'RE NOT AN ANIME CHARACTER" so it's all just boring shit. Vtuber content is stagnant and has been for years now.

They all sing, they all dance, they all play apex or minecrat. They all do react content, they all collab with other vtubers also doing the same things or with normal streamers that also do the same things. None of them do anything else.
