Fwiw art fiance anon, I'm the usual ADHD anon you talk to around this time, and while it seems like you two have a great handle on things I have some stuff I learned about my own ADHD that you might find useful. I've spent an absurd amount of time trying to figure out the paradox of how OCD and ADHD can possibly be comorbid when they seem so contradictory, and trying to relate this to the phenomenon of hyperfocus. One day when I was doing Theravanda meditation it hit me that two types of neuroatypical individuals with quite orthogonal or even opposite cognitive issues would display very similarly from the outside. Someone who has strong fixation tendencies and attention switching issues would act very similarly to someone who has impairingly diffuse attention. Basically, the first would be like those rooms in Link to the Past where everything is dark except the small circle immediately around Link. The individual can only see one very small thing at a time. Their way of coping with a small but bright attention window would be to move it around very fast to try and see the whole room. Ironically, despite our issue being seen as lack of focus, it could really more accurately be described as too much focus and an inability to do the other important forms of attention: vigilance, alertness, relaxed awareness, and so on. Anyway, obviously she may be quite different from me, but the way you describe her sounds very similar, and I have really bad intrusive thought issues. I've always been able to compartmentalize well because I'm highly verbal so I never imagine the voices in my head as repressed feelings but instead as just cognitive audiation ticks that I can't help. I do struggle with it still, because a brain that says random shit like "you deserve to die" when I'm in the right (wrong) focus conditions can be pretty unpleasant. But at any rate, I really can't stress Theravanda meditation enough as a way of beginning to understand one's own cognitive processes. The meta awareness that comes from being able to see your cognitive mechanics is incredibly freeing, well before you can even really do anything about them. And the thing is if sitting down for ten minutes is extremely hard or nearly impossible and painful it's a. Sort of even more necessary to ones mental health and b. Like I was telling an anon about fitness yesterday, it's getting back to minimum baseline normalishish that's really the most therapeutic. The same way getting someone with a traumatic injury back from not being able to press a twenty pound bar to being able to press a normal 45 pound bar is extremely important and therapeutic. It might seem incredibly dispiriting because it takes months to get back to what is less than zero for most people, but in terms of personal benefit it's absolutely gigantic. It's 100% growth. For people like us, meditating for thirty minutes can be agonizing and painful and make us feel worse many times than when we started meditating. But going from being unable to meditate for five minutes to bring able to do it for thirty minutes is 500% growth. Anyway, just wanted to share something that at least for me was extremely impactful on my mental health

I'm gonna be straight with you. I do not get competitive with girls unless I am fully certain they're serious and not kidding and even then I would let them win every so often if I think I could fool them. If it's something they're better than me at I would engage as earnestly as possible and try to win and even play up my tryhard for them.

I am an extremely competitive person in the sense that when something matters to me I will spend hundreds of hours on it, theorycraft, buy books on it and so forth. I will also, if I know that the other people in the room are game, fully involve my present self in whatever random game is in front of me if I like it enough. But being actually super competitive means you're not interested in breaking people's wills to play for no reason. Like... I don't know why being ultra competitive is so associated with sadism. The actual practical effect of being competitive is usually that you get better than your friends and they stop playing with you literally because they don't have fun losing and then you have no one to play with and sometimes you get so desperate you start faking losing or adopting internal handicaps so you can keep improving while still letting them think things are on pretty even ground. I really feel like real competitors:
1. Are willing to keep going even if they lose 100 times in a row, and no I'm not exaggerating. I've had at least five times in my life I can remember losing that many times in a row, a few of those in a single day
2. Always willing to put their heart on the line and not try to fudge over losses with ehhhhhh just a game! If they know they didn't go in with that mentality
3. Always conspiring to build up people around them because the hardest thing for them to find is people who will actually want to go the distance with them and keep growing, so they'll actually go out of their way to nurture people.

Of course I've been salty plenty of times in my life. You can't be competitive and never get salty. But believe it or not the thing that actually makes it lonely is that you see something as a rivalry, you're behind, you work hard to catch up, and after being in the losing end for so long and you start winning you see them slowly lose interest or, even worse, start flipping out. I had a friend that once I beat their Marth once, I remember them rage quitting, they got up, went to their room because we shared an apartment, slammed the door without saying a word and we never ended up playing again. That kind of shit makes us walk around eggshells around others and if someone says oh yeah I'm super competitive I don't really take it at face value until I observe them enough.

I kind of made myself really lonely typing this

This is just how our brains run. It associates tribal success as a higher chance of surviving. Therefore we get irrationally upset when it seems like our tribe is "losing." Sports runs on the same emotions, and you can see the types of people who let that dominate their lives too much too. Being on /vt/ is doubly bad because not only will it already have the most sensitive population, but also the situational frame that most paints it like tribal warfare.

Tl;Dr occupational hazard

Novelite here who just really likes all of advent and hangs out in the different splits. I wish I could thank your oshi for taking care of my autistic wife, but that would be breaking containment so I'll thank you instead. Nerissa is a really good girl and genuinely is like an older sister to this gen. I love her and if it weren't for shiori~n she might've been my oshi. Jailbirds are good people

This debate reminds me of 2000s era forums like gamefaqs. Sort of like shiori's taste in music. Is nu metal like dmail that sends everyone back to their teenaged years? More experimentation needed. El Psy Kongroo.
