Good morning /vtai/!
Right into the grind
Fucked up some links, had to redo em or my data would be kind useless.

Alright gonna do a comprehensive breakdown of all the things I've tried

Attempt 1
Here's what happens when I try using Just Resize, which is my normal workflow.

https://files.catbox.moe/w7kcng.png
I already have my upscaler of choice selected in the settings like you showed, but of course there's also a sampling method selected, and that is also what is shown in the metadata.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say this is also what is used, just based on the appearance of the image.

Attempt 2
If I choose a higher resolution with the same method, this is what it gives me:
https://files.catbox.moe/jsw5eq.png
As you can see, much in contrast to using hires fix, the composition of the image has radically changed, and it now borrows much more heavily from the original.

In case the issue is one of "staging", here's that same method applied to the original output. I've changed the denoising to 0.5 as that is what I usually run when upscaling.

This is currently my "closest to being the real deal" but still has the issue where if I lower the denoising, it becomes blurry and not very upscaled, and if I raise it, it changes the image way too much.

Attempt 3
Now, I'll try using the Upscaler feature that can be enabled in the settings, also with my upscaler of choice, and this looks generally alright for the most part, but doesn't actually change anything. It's just the exact same image in a higher resolution, no additional details or nothing.

Attempt 4
Here's the fourth attempt with the SDUpscale feature, which I cannot get to not use tiling (and can't get any tiles that are my full image size) so it ends up making what is essentially a bunch of individual images that don't communicate with eachother.

Undoubtedly cool as hell, but not usable for my purposes.

Now trying this approach.

>Add "upscaler_for_img2img" to your quicksettings
Alright tried adding that, now it's in my top bar yeah, with my preferred upscaler already chosen.
>Check "With img2img, do exactly the amount of steps the slider specifies (normally you'd do less with less denoising)." setting
Already checked.

>Use img2img, type in the desired resolution manually (so if it's 2x from 512x512 it would be 1024x1024)
>Choose the img2img upscaler, I suggest 4x-animesharp or remacri
>Use 0.5-0.55 denoise if you want it to be detailed and ready to redo the upscale several times in case it spergs out, 0.35-0.45 if you want it to look more like initial gen but a bit undetailed
Alright, basically looks almost identical to attempt 2, running it again.

https://files.catbox.moe/34s0g9.png
And the output is almost exactly the same as well, which was of course the strongest candidate, but also not quite where I liked having it, and very importantly is a manual thing, where I was really hoping to have it be auto like hires fix, since I want it on every single gen I make.
