Completely unrelated, but if you guys ever wonder how corporations are able to become so autistically retarded about their bottom line, doing fucking terrible long-term decisions to increase their quarterly return by a few tenths of a percentage point, I want you to look at the mindset of these two, ironic or not, and realize that that's how it happens, viewing a zoomed in perspective for months at a time makes those small segments seem like they matter so much more.

I think that's a symptom of the tribalfag v unity mindset each thread tends to have.
ritualposts act as rallying points for "tribes" to express their love before shitposting on each other. surveyposts are the equivalent of fraternizing after the main action has died down.
If the thread is more attuned to tribalism, then they'll prefer ways to showcase their flag over others, and not care about the opinions of people they dislike. If the thread is more attuned to unity, then they won't see much of a point in rallying to a flag when that's already a given, and they'll feel more interested in learning what their fellow posters have to say about things.
The reference point I can think of for this is an old show called Chaotic. There was a device that brought the players of the card game to a digital world, where the players could interact and be friendly to each other while talking about and playing the card game Chaotic, and which of the factional decks they used. That would be equivalent to /hlgg/. But there's also the way they play the card game in the virtual world, where they get transported to a nested simulation of Chaotic, where they fight each other AS the factional card representatives, using the cards as weapons to fight in real time. That would be closer to /hlg/, an actual fighting ground.
