Yuko's case is a quintessential example. People following her roommate knew WELL in advance that she had chosen a side and "betrayed" them - but a ton of core fans maintained their trust right through until the big "announcement" stream where the off-stream drama (groomers, SO or whatever else it was) leaked into the on-screen persona - nuking all their past mengen content and changing the chuuba's persona.
This is the exact type of shit they got into chuubas to AVOID.
It also means that those that got burned have far more of an incentive to dig for doxxshit for every single VTuber they watch from now on - just to not get betrayed again. Many pure-hearted CGDCT fags get converted into doxxfags after their first betrayal.
Chuubas that are always promoting fleshie shit like KSon and Kuro don't help matters either.

Heck even within Hololive, there's chuubas like Kiara who's giving updates about her internet on her roommate account for example (probably because she can shit on it more freely there), or chuubas like Shion, Matsuri and a few others who have menhera spergouts in their roommates, which chip away at the sacred wall that keeps VTubing intact.
Fans are content to wait around and just consume the official on-stream narrative alone, but the moment any of their off-stream shit starts affecting on-stream content is when shit hits the fan.
