I think even back when Lazulight and Obsydia were the only ones around, the fans were still acting like "our chuubas are better than Hololive".
It wasn't to the level it is now (where the livers are also involved) but even back then nijifans weren't really seen positively.
It was quite cathartic watching Lazufags increasingly trying to cope with the direction their branch was heading in.

The popular notion of nijifans never shilling their own livers' good points but always comparing them to someone from Hololive holds true because the "root" fans, the group from which the rest of the fandom takes cues from, were shitters from the start.

They can never really pinpoint why they watch Nijisanji or like Niji livers, their arguments mainly roll down to "because they're not Hololive". This is especially true for NijiEN fans, NijiJP fans at least have some history with some of their livers, even if a large part of their general fanbase is schizo.
