The karaoke bit hit hard, since it was reminiscent of a formerly close pair in a mutual friend group that went through a rough breakup, before putting aside their differences and "moving on" for the sake of civility, but something isn't right. One is trying to pine their love onto another to convince themselves they've "moved on" while the ex is feels good knowing that their 'good friend' is feeling better, they still register on the same wavelength, intrinsically looking out for one another and acknowledging specific details about their likes, ambitions, and shared ambitions. What was once there is too far gone, but they can each find solace in their owned feigned happiness, hopelessly yearning for what once was, yet never openly addressing it further.
Still very cute though, and arguably a much more entertaining dynamic now, so maybe it's for the best.
