He was the one who decided to change up his look. My memory is shit so take this with a grain of salt but the theory was that he never really managed to comfortably play as the bullied old man and wanted to be younger. Astel's live2d change gave him confidence to push for it.
I don't really like the change myself since I'm horny for older men but if it makes him happy then I have no real reason to be upset with him.
