it does something in this specific case (masked sick person), but it's logistically pointless because it spreads too fast and from people who don't even know they're sick. in a lot of asian countries, the ones where trash piles up, it's not standard to cover your mouth to cough or sneeze, so the mask is like a worse but still substantial alternative. as always, pippa is wrong mainly because she's excessively angry and citing japanese culture for no reason without realizing western practices are technically better. it's girl logic though, the APPEARANCE of doing something is more important than the reality that she was gonna get sick anyway.
