I studied LiDAR and other forms of remote sensing in Uni, LiDAR in particular is really cool. It works by shooting a laser or series of lasers at the ground and producing a 3D representation of how long it takes for each beam to return to the receiver. You can get hyper-accurate ground geography and topography, especially useful in studying the ocean floor, and as of recently, the Amazon and finding some lost civilization shit. Phase Connect.
