I like this idea in principle, but I have one issue and one remark.

First, the remark: maybe try to involve the threads themselves rather than individual reps when it comes to map placement, or rather try to have the reps consult it with their home threads. Otherwise, some nations might be permanently located at a place only one person has chosen - yes, I know that right now countries don't really choose where they are placed, but it's much easier to be dissatisfied with "wrong" placement when a decision could have been made. This also plays into what the Lunaito said - by placing the burden on the thread in question rather than a single person, you could avoid that incentive. Plus, people who'd swing by their own thread wouldn't say "hey does anyone want to write for our project from your thread" but rather "hey, I'm writing for our thread in /vtwbg/, any preferences to the location"? Additionally, I'd want to encourage nations to write a short overview of their thread and culture before choosing their placement to avoid situations where the barely any lore is written, yet space is claimed. If they go inactive afterwards, c'est la vie, but at least the nation will be "alive" in this world.

The issue: wouldn't that make some areas of the world completely barren? I feel like people will pick places closer to other nations, which will lead into very "blobbed" developed areas. How would the provincial system address that, if it is the case?
