As someone who lived in NYC most of their life, the novelty and interesting stuff eventually stops being worth it. You get a cool job which pays well, but that get's more corporate and barely covers cost of living. There's a bunch of pretentious pricks. You become numb to having a homeless schizo lady piss all over the floor on the subway next to you.
The only reasons which would bring me back is the restaurants and music venues.
