Ideally you'd have a cover for the blanket, since most of - if not all - weighted blankets have loops on each corner to attach it to. So it's similar to how you'd wash a pillowcase but not a pillow itself.
I personally just sandwich it somewhere between my other 4 regular blankets I use, without a cover.

Only if you get one of the aesthetic ones which are like a woven weighted net for muh breathability which force you to wash the whole damn thing.
They are so good and honestly really addicting.
