Yeah I know, the anime repeated that multiple times every episode. My point is that is not an interesting or compelling motivation for an antagonist in a character-driven story. The only narrative difference between them and the big flower monster they fought a week or two ago was that the demons ate up several weeks. Maybe that gets subverted down the line in chapter 42069 but that doesn't make the arc the anime covered any better.

Was it a conclusion? The only thing we learned was that Frieren's master taught her to hide her power level. She still kinda misses her master but if it took you all those flashbacks to figure that out I don't know what to tell you. Either way it left her in the exact same emotional place she entered the arc in, it wasn't even really a departure from and return to status quo all those flashbacks really did was exposit plot details.
