I can't remember where i heard it but there a saying;
>"People judge you within the first 30 seconds of opening your stream"
which applies to everyone on twitch not just vtubers. If they open up the stream and see dead air for over 10 seconds or you aren't doing anything interesting they will probably just leave.
It's the main reason to avoid deadair and actually be actively talking/entertaining even if you have 0 viewers. I know it's difficult to stay motivated when nobody is there, but these people should have known what they were getting into considering how oversaturated the market is right now.
