I've been moving from board to board every few years since like 2006. The site has consistently gotten worse over the years but around 2010 or so people stopped telling newfags to lurk moar and it's made things so much worse. If you visit /pol/ these days there's actual 60 year old neo-nazis who think it's just the new homepage for /r/The_Donald and have 0 knowledge of 4chan or its history. Same for /vg/ a lot of those generals ended up becoming the actual central hub for their games, equivalent to a subreddit or vbulletin forum for the actual old fucks. People who use them will never venture out of those threads it's crazy. There's probably people that have been on 4chan for over a decade and don't know who Moot is except that you spam MOOOOT when the unix timestamps fuck up and image thumbnails get swapped.

Being anonymous lets me talk about stuff I can't even talk to my therapist about.
My life is really lonely though so this probably doesn't apply to everyone but I need an outlet for it and 4chan is the last place on the internet where you won't get doxxed or harassed for talking about your fetishes or your mental illness.
I've actually made a few lifelong friends off 4chan too, so the off chance of being able to bond with someone on here enough to potentially even become offsite friends while rare is incredibly worth it.
