>The session had been going well; Mori had gotten them through their first mission well, successfully taking down a Vampire's thrall and finding a lead to the main beast's hideout. She was feeling quite proud, even allowing herself to embellish the descriptions of the campaign to feed into the gravitas of the moment.
>"The party is walking down the busy street of the city, getting ready for the next hunt. As they go farther down the street, it's almost as if they're played off by the street musician on the corner..."
>Kiara suddenly pipes up in the lull between exposition. "I wanna tell that street punk to SHUT UP, they're stepping on our moment!"
>Ame laughs a little at this, stating, "yeah, we're the badasses here, we don't need some background dude trying to cramp our style!"
>Mori was taken aback by this, as she had merely used the exposition to justify her BGM in-universe, wanting to play them off with a song of her own she had composed, hoping to make a theme song of sorts for this campaign.
>"H-Hey, street punks are cool! Who wouldn't want a badass outro on their successful 'op,' man? Maybe give it a chance!"
>Ina takes the chance to interject quickly. "Sorry, Calli, but I don't think their music is all that en-thrall-ing for the party." Gura, who had been taking the time so far to bask in her clutch survival during the mission, couldn't help herself from snorting at the joke along with the rest of the group. Mori could easily let this go, but the mocking had only further chained her to the defense of her bit-part NPC.
>"Come on guys, you don't know until you give them a chance! What if the street punk's music is actually super good, and the only reason people don't want to hear it is because they haven't tried something different! You don't know!"
>Gura's attention was grabbed surprisingly strongly by what Mori had said. "Awww, that's so sad! I didn't know you had a story for them already, maybe we'll get them up to the bigtime!"
>Mori hadn't, in fact, written a story for this NPC. She only just noticed how deeply she was inserting herself into the character. She was glad to be doing this over a call now, as the blood rushing to her face matched the color of the wine in her glass. "O-oh, no, it's not a big deal or anything, don't worry about them." What she didn't realize was the cardinal truth of a tabletop game; the more you try to direct a player's attention away from something, the more their focus is pulled to it. As the discussion went on and on, the game only continued to pull them all closer together, as the girls felt more comfortable in their character's skin, and they let themselves relax around each other once again.
