This is basically why they made Ame remove the "idol" part of her lore description. They know they can't maintain that image, so they just lower the standards instead of even -try- to be better people.

Do you guys remember, when Mori was brand new, how her story of trying super hard trying to make it into something someday trying to chase her dream in Japan working multiple jobs to do it, really inspired people? Remember how basically at one point supporting Mori was really a feel-good kind of moment? Yeah. That is in fact, the good part of idoldom, inspiration, helping people reach their dreams etc. Of course she squandered it basically right away, she clearly didn't understand that people built her up into something actually better than she really is as a person and she didn't try one little bit to live up to that shiny image.

Ame had a bit of that too knowing she's poor and Hololive is her cinderella story, people always liked her soul when singing and marveling at even small signs of improvement etc. But yeah, it's the same thing, to just turn and @the fans and go "you should work on yourselves" is her attempt at being inspirational but also says "I bet you're all loser slobs (thus, go work on yourselves)" and she is fucking stupid as shit if she didn't think that people would catch onto that as a below the belt backhanded (at BEST) statement.

I've never even been a big Ame fan so you can say I have no horse in this race, but for the sake of the other ENs I do think it is important to lay down a line of standards because god fucking knows that most vtuber fans have zero fucking spines at all and act like friendzone orbiters of stacies taking advantage of them IRL. That's exactly what it is when well-meaning fans say "oh nooo they can do anything you want my sweet and I'll still give you money no matter what" - it's trying to support them but is just enabling them to try less, do less, care less about this whole gig because why bother when they still get paid (the Ayame effect).
