A parallel agency, the "Special Public Investigative Agency" (SPIA) was formed to combat infiltrating Schizos. Since the 11th century, there have been a steady downfall of large-scale schzio invasions, though their threat is not completely eliminated. SPIU was created by incorporating police officers and militiamen. Their agents have special powers to issue search warrants and detain any suspected individuals. However recently they were accused of being oppressive and over-reaching. Excessive warrants disturbed civilian life and their special powers threaten the freedom of expression within the Republic. Some scholars have even attributed the increased immigration to the Central Empire in recent decades to the activities of the agency. The backlash against them created waves of controversy in the public sphere. But the agency had become entrenched.
