Oops that was a typo yeah... or rather that was me considering the fantasy nature of the world after the fact. Then going back to change the hero's gender to suit Kanata more.

It's a medical school. In her own Holo-lore she studied as a nurse at angel academy. And the nurse/healing theme is important so I wanted the plague to influence the academics in that medical direction. In both a practical and mystical sense. As well as a branch that studies Kanatonium radiation and the effects of that on human body. The cave city still exists beneath the academy, it's treated as both a deposit and historical site closed to the public. I didn't really have plans for the ones who marched south, it was just going to be something that emphasized the choice between following the hard path for a far off reward versus taking an easy path and losing your destiny. Symbolizing Kanata's decision to join Hololive in the first place. A lot of these hardships are symbolic of what Kanata herself had to go through, our thread was just along for the ride as fans of her. When she had her laptop stolen and had to live on her own for months without monetization that's the beginning of the journey.

The hardship of lost music I based on her giving up on music because of losing hearing in her ear. When she debuted for Hololive she was determined to not give it up and practiced to get where she is today. The armies getting turned back are metaphorical for her struggle with isolation and opening up to others, leaving behind the holohouse stuff like that. And the plague is based on the two months of covid sickness hell we endured. The city is an ideal happy state that people have to believe in before they can find, it's where we are right now or possibly in the future. And the tribe of darkness is a bit of a cliche metaphor if you want to think of it as one, but it is the despairing doomers, the ones that write paragraphs about how everything is fucked and we'll never get better. They're not "schizo" at all, just depressed.
