Tidally locked planets are awesome! Happy to see one pop up already. And if you start missing day cycles, you can always give it a moon that is tidally locked to the planet.
Also, evolution can sometimes be more fresh than a fresh start. How might Palkyries change, evolve and adapt over tens of thousands of years of spatial inhabitation? They might be unrecognizable from what they used to be. That's just one way to go about it though.
One thing for sure is that Valkyries are an amazing thematic fit for Gundams.
