It's due to Potassium having a high number of naturally occurring radioactive isotopes that get absorbed and concentrated in the fruit.

Big trucks with bananas have been regularly stop-searched when crossing borders since geiger counters installed to look for smuggled nukes are set off by the relatively high amount of radioactivity.
