Skyrim came out over a decade ago grandpa, it is a retro game.

I don't play many platformers so I really can't judge it fairly. I played mario on the original gameboy and that's about it.
I think games like Gravity Rush are still good and recent. Hollow Knight was great though its getting up there in age too. I really adored little nightmares but that might not be considered platformer (i don't know want counts as "platformers"). I know there's a bunch of interesting mobile platformers though while while >mobile, many of them actually have some really nice stuff going for them.

while I agree this is cancer, many of them are free or relatively cheap compared to the old days as well. and its at least usually optional.
But for every try hard game like siege and CS, you do have games like halo infinite and apex for the casual audiences. which having grown up on halo, i prefer things like apex arenas. halo was and still is really stiff, it had the nostalgia of the old days and early xbox live, but gameplay wise it isn't really that special.

don't get me wrong, i think modern games have lots of problems older games didn't have. but overall its been better at least in terms of gameplay. and we still get games like sakuna that are amazing games. or remakes like resident evil that show how much better those old games are with modern controls (even if they do remove stuff they didn't need to...)
