Youth hinders genuine enjoyment, not age. The younger someone is, the more they'll be too concerned with how his hobbies might be perceived to become fully invested in them.
It's the 16 year-old who thinks "oh god, they'll think I'm weird", not the 30 year-old.

There comes a point in life where you "let go" of the idea that people actually give a shit about what you do. It's part indifference, part resignation. Ironically enough, it's the feeling that you're too old to care.

It's a good thing they dropped it. It's actually a horrible way to study a language. I say that having finished two entire language trees.

The game-like approach doesn't work at all. It becomes a chore very quickly, which makes you want to do just the bare minimum to keep the "streak", ironically hindering any real progress.
The lessons are also too formulaic and repetitive. "I have a house", "the restaurant is over there", "we're leaving on Sunday" etc. Basically, self-contained sentences which provide no real experience of how the language operates on a larger scale.

Reading a basic grammar book will teach you more in a day than Duo will in a month.
