Anon, that's just the integral under the curve. It's basic bitch math.

Here is how the average is calculated today
>pic related for a ROUGH SKETCH

1) tracking sites take samples every interval of time (with vrabi taking them ever 15 seconds)
2) they calculate the area below the samples (it's a simple integral)
3) they divide said area by the stream length to calculate the average of ONE stream

Now, to calculate the average of a certain channel in a period of time, they use another basic bitch Calculus 101 identity
>the integral of sum of two or more functions is equal to the sum of their integrals.

For that, it suffices to
>multiply the average of a single stream by it's stream length
>add all of these results for every stream
>divide by the sum of stream length for every stream

What they call "hours watched" is just the total area below the combined chart for all streams in the period.
Divide that by the stream length and it's the average in the period.
