I'm getting exposed to more romance fantasy fiction as my wife continues to share some with me. I just listened to first book of the Flames of Chaos (which is apparently one of her favorite series) and while I got my own thoughts on the prose and presentation, it kinda tracks with what you said about women writing themselves to be the subject of a conflict but not always in the sense that they caused the conflict directly.

From what I've been exposed to so far, I think you what you heard makes sense. Neither way is inherently right or wrong, but it seems to be a trend at least in the literature intended for the respective gender audience. I know from my own personal experience that when I played with figures I craft the stories around them and where they might best fit.

Is Shion a witch that keeps to her own devices? Or would she have a lofty goal of some sort?

It's alright to keep the details of the sauce to yourself for now, you're asking a high level enough question that story details aren't super needed. I guess on the topic of the potential cut away being a different character putting the wheels of the conflict in motion, is it a character the reader is aware of already? It kinda sounds like you want to write a brief intermission to help set the stage from behind the curtain while time transitions. I dig that kinda thing. The key is in the early stages you treat it with a very light hand if that makes sense. Don't give away more than you need to at the moment, and keep in mind what you plan to reveal later on.
As for beta readers, you can take a gander at the list we got on the archive and email whoever you might be comfortable with giving your stuff a look over. They're all pretty swell and likely wouldn't turn you away, and your story will benefit greatly from another set of eyes on it.

I suppose the point that it might devolve into an ego trip is the point where too much engagement is detrimental to the writer. I could see the argument that it could make someone complacent if they are met with constant positive engagement, and even in events where the engagement might be negative, it can still feed an ego. I've still yet to see fanfic engagement on twitter, but I also haven't looked very hard. With twitter's low character limit, it seems hard to really have proper engagement on there.

I like it as both a concept for a big ass quest, and something one-off oriented. I think the idea of restoring a woman's emotions that had been sealed away somehow is a really neat idea. You could set up almost any antagonist for it
>Swindler witch like you said
>Big shapeshifting dragon with lots of magical artifacts and just enjoys being a bitch
Or even
>Bijou at the behest of Shiori
That just got something else turning
>Have a good relationship with the local blacksmith who has been helping keeping your gear in top shape since you moved there
>This strange little gem girl shows up from time to time, they seem rather close
>Without knowing it, Bijou sapped Kaela's sexual desires from her, and the bottled emotions end up as physical gemstones that she likes to decorate simple rocks with for selling
>One look at one of those jewels is enough to tell you that there is something magically powerful about them, and any mage half worth their salt would have fucking jizzed themselves to get their hands on one
>local dickass wizard is actually using the vast magical fountain that is Kaela's silent autistic sexuality to fuel a magic that could summon a demon big enough to step on a town, or just flat out turn it into a glass floor
>Work with silly rock girl to right the fuck up she did
>Get blacksmith's sex gem back
>Breaking it near Kaela is enough to let her groove seep back into her soul
>use the rest fashion a simple ring
>propose, and before you get halfway down to one knee, kaela lifts up you from your underarms and proceeds to rock your world
>Bijou is mortified

If I may weigh in on this too, it sounds like you haven't been sure what the exact relationship between Reine and her nephew is just yet. Like you know you want them to fuck, but it's almost like you want to just pluck them out of their own rooms while they're masturbating so they are riled up enough to fuck the first thing that has a pulse in front of them, ie their nephew/aunt respectively. So let's go through the parts you got so far that work nicely for their relationship and can foster a codependency / place of comfort between them.
>Shared interests in weeb stuff that is mostly understood by the rest of the family
Great starting point to establish their bonding and spending time together. Pretty much a no brainer and lends itself really well to black sheep grazing together.
>Reine spoils him sometimes with her considerable income
Good for establishing that the MC also views her as a providing figure of sorts and helps strengthen the idea that they are family. This is meant to help fan the flame behind the taboo that will come later. It also gives both parties a sense of purpose, 1 can always find comfort and basic need fulfillment from the other, while the one providing will have a sense of care and responsibility that comes from a desire to see that person taken care of.
>MC is a fan of her streaming content
Potentially a pretty deep and cool dynamic to explore. Is his aunt the exact same as the streamer she plays as? Does it feed further into the desire to commit incest because of a power play to have sex with the one desired by thousands? Does Reine want to be more to someone than just the chuuba?
>Reine is tired of being lezbait
So here implies she has an interest in men, since why else would she fuck her nephew? This can also go back to the streaming lifestyle thing. She might also be receptive to the idea because it could also be a cover up almost of sorts. "Oh it's just her nephew, they aint fucking, my oshi is pure and loves me!" is what fans would likely think, and there's usually no stigma around them spending time with their families. There's a lot of cool stuff I think you can explore with this idea that can help develop the relationship. You ultimately need to really draw out WHAT the relationship is prior to the chapter starting. You don't have to paint it all out at the start, but it will help guide you on your writing if you know these things before hand.

It's because of the potential wordplay that I'm confused. Like is the prompt asking for something like
>No one knows how exactly the council came to be, or if its members actually exist, but faith is often formed from the unexplained
>Different parts of the world have their own interpretation of its members who act as deities them
>Some cultures have even gone to war over if Fauna is the rightful guardian of nature, or if she usurped the seat from another by means of deception or even murder
>Others refuse to acknowledge Mumei as a full fledged member as she is believed to have been mortal before ascending to the watcher of civilization
>insert some stuff about how other chuubas either believe some of the legends, try to disprove them, etc

But the songs themselves would be enough of an explanation no? Like the MV with Nene clearly shows she's a massive idol simp.

I'm not really bothered by altered lore since it is an AU, but the presentation itself just seems bloated. It could also be that things like "who admires" or "who is a rival of who, but doesn't tell them, but also thinks someone else is cool" don't really appeal to me in a high level overview like this.
