This could work in the same sense the "virtual band" from a series of Daft Punk clips woirked.
For those who don't know, along with their second album Daft Punk released a full blown fully featured "anime music video" tying in all of their video clips.

Those virtual characters were ahead of their time, had it been released in 2023 instead of 2003 they could EASILY have tied it in with a live streaming channel and capitalized on the vtuber trend
