Don't knock it until you've tried it. Yes, people with massive social anxiety who can't handle crowds would find it the worst thing ever, but there is something rather fun and intoxicating being out in a throng with a bunch of other like minded retards who are all just trying to enjoy their fandom. It makes you feel very not alone at all.
