Germany is one of the only countries you could even include in the "northern european" category. If you only wanted to include Denmark, Sweden, Norway, etc. you'd say Scandinavia. (The only other candidate would be Britain, since the Baltic states are considered eastern european.)
But none of this matters anyway. The point is that being frank, forthright and blunt is one of the stereotypes people have of germans, as opposed to for example french, and that fits CC pretty well.
